Equiteam member Nicki Bell had heard us raving about the Cuddlr trousers, so in the last few weeks she has been putting the Cuddlr Adapt 2in1 Jacket and Gilet to the test. Here is what she has to say. I wore the jacket to turn out/bring in/muck out the horses – if anything can test a jacket’s durability, it’s a 600-kg animal who decides the wind and rain are personally offensive.
Waterproofing:
The heavens opened, the mud was ankle-deep, and the horses looked at me like I’d scheduled this weather myself. But the jacket, it stayed so dry, rain slid off me while the horses became swamp creatures. Initially, there was a strange, crinkly noise emanating from the jacket which made me sound like a mobile crisp packet, but honestly, the horses didn’t seem to mind, (this sound does wear off once it has been worn once or twice)!
Warmth:
Warm? Absolutely. Overly warm while wrestling stubborn horses and mucking out a stable, also absolutely. Extremely lightweight, does not feel like you are wearing a duvet but you actually are.
Style:
Better than anticipated, functional does not always “look good”, it really is unoffensive, and I was warm and dry, which is basically high fashion when you’re ankle-deep in mud. Would say the sizing was pretty accurate too. Does have removable sleeves, not really the weather for testing this but I think it would work well as a gilet.
Cons:
- Heat retention strong enough to cook you medium-rare.
- Rustling noises may convince the ponies you brought snacks. You did not. They judge!
- Does not repel the stench of wet horse rug.
Final Verdict:
It survived rain, wind, mud, horse breath, horse attitude, and my poor life choices. Perfect for anyone whose hobbies include getting soaked and being dragged around by a determined animal. I absolutely love it!
